On Monday I'm going to start sending out PMs and emails to everyone who according to my calculations is due a refund. I'm going to do this in batches. If you have not received a PM or email by Saturday June 7th, and believe you are due a refund, please PM or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. If you do receive a PM or email and have any concerns, feel free to reply. I will attempt to issue the refund 7 days after you are contacted, so if I get to you on Tuesday June 3rd, I'll try to get out the refund on Tuesday June 10th.
Paypal note: it appears refunds of purchases within the last 60 days should be straightforward (https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=xpt/Marketing/bizui/SendRefund-outside). If the credit purchase I am refunding is older than 60 days, I'll have to make a payment to you, in which case you will need a paypal account.
After some deliberation, I have made the decision to temporarily suspend operation of DriveTheLane.com. I will be issuing refunds.
Let's start with the refunds. My plan is, assuming I have all the data I think I will have, to make them on a case by case basis. I will calculate how many credits per season each coach spends and subtract this from credits purchased. For a rough example, if you bought 2000 credits 1.5 seasons ago and you average spending 350 credits per season, you would be refunded: 2000 - (1.5 * 350) = 1475 = $14.75. I will cut the current season in half for everyone (since all the fun stuff happens at the end of a season (tournaments, recruits, awards, etc)), so our previous example would work out to: 2000 - ((1 + (.5 * 1/2)) * 350) = 1562.5 = $15.63. For coaches with very little credit spending history, I will probably use an average. I believe I should have no problem issuing refunds via paypal. If you send in physical checks, please either email me an address you would like a physical check sent to, or a paypal account I can send the money to. You can reach me at email@example.com.
As for DTL, I very much hope this is not the end.
I did not write the game engine, but rather took over operation of the game after it had been running for 10 or so years. I have been porting the engine to a computer language I am more familiar with, and have made some progress but there is still a ways to go. While I am working on that, I would like to get the message board back up, as well as provide access to simstats. You will be able to log in to both with your old DTL username and password. The message board will be first, I hope to have that up by the end of the long weekend. I will continue to update this page and provide a link to the message board once it is ready.
This is a sad day for me, as this is not how I envisioned the transition to the new game engine. Hopefully this gives me some extra time and motivation to make more rapid progress. For those of you who do not stick around, it has been my honor. For those of you who do, see you on the new message board :-)
